On July 29, the National Review Online broke the story about a leaked USCIS memo entitled "Administrative Alternatives to Comprehensive Immigration Reform". Immediately, Senate Republicans went on the attack. Senator Charles Grassley(R-Iowa) did not hesitate to invoke the dreaded "A word": "This memo give credence to our concerns that the administration will go to great lengths to circumvent Congress and unilaterally execute a back door amnesty plan." These are simple "skilled" visas, where an individual doesn't need any specialized training or education (other than two years of college). As such, the legislation would keep a half-million Americans out of work. Senate leadership is considering taking up the E-Verify reauthorization bill today before members depart for summer recess, so Senators are negotiating with Menendez in order to reach an accommodation.
Is there any direction from Members on this.

I am also in the same situation that my company's attorney is not giving me I140 receipt number. They just say that it was filed in first week May but don't have the receipt number yet.

I applied for I140 on January and receipt date is Jan 12 2007, I upgraded to PP during last days of June, and the receipt date for it was July 2nd and today i was checking the status, the status is showing a receipt date of July 5th, i called customer service center they say that receipt date is July 5th and this is not a premium case. I understand that they have temporarily suspended PP for 140, but even though my request for upgrade to PP was rejected, the receipt date should be still Jan 12 2007 or will they change it to latest date when request for PP upgrade was denied, anyone facing this issue?

Hi,
I am working on L1 from Company A.
I have applied for L1 to H1 status for year 2008 from comany B. H1 got approved without COS. As COS not done, I continued working on L1 with company A. Now my L1 is getting expired on Aug 2010 and my L1 company want to extend L1.
While applying for my L1 extention, my H1 applival cause any problem.
Please help me to get more info on this. Please let me know if you need more details on this.

LCAs for consultatnts definitely are challenging, since they move around so much. In your case, a new LCA is not required because the new position is in the same Metropolitan Statistical Area (basically the same town) as the old location.
In general, CIS and DOL distinguish between employees who are roving as part of their job, and those who are sent to a new location for a short term. The distinction is too complicated to go into here, but hopefully your company's attorney is well aware of it.

As far as the jury is concerned, however, the case is about only one thing: lying.
One particularly well-qualified witness on this subject was not called by either the prosecution or the defense, so today we cross-examine Robert Feldman ourselves. Feldman is a social psychologist at the University of Massachusetts who studies lying in everyday life, and his findings are just the kind of thing that Libby's lawyers could have pounced on.
Feldman's experiments show that stern-faced judicial proceedings about perjury are as remote from the realities of human behavior as President Bush is from the Nobel Peace Prize. For one thing, lying plays a more complex role in human relationships than the black-and-white legal view recognizes. It is also so commonplace in everyday life that putting people on trial for lying is somewhat like putting them on trial for breathing.
Experiments have found that ordinary people tell about two lies every 10 minutes, with some people getting in as many as a dozen falsehoods in that period. More interestingly -- and Libby might see this as the silver lining if he is found guilty -- Feldman also found that liars tend to be more popular than honest people. (Ever notice how popular politicians somehow change their minds on controversial issues such as the war in Iraq at the exact moment that public opinion on those issues changes?)

Lots of activity to report. Congressional Hispanic Caucus leaders met this week with President Obama who said he wants a vote during the Lame Duck and would work the phones to round up votes. Harry Reid tweeted today that he'll offer the DREAM Act as a standalone bill which will hopefully help bring along a few of the "procedural" no voters from last September who indicated they like the DREAM Act but didn't believe in tacking it on to a budget bill. I am a July 2007 filer. I filed for I-485 using the old fee structure and also applied for AP in July 2007. My AP got approved in 07 but expired so I had to apply for AP in Aug 2008. So I filed in Aug 2008 and paid $305 for AP fee. Now it's to reapply for AP as it expires soon; however I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to pay for AP fee again. I sent the forms to USCIS but the AP package got returned as they claim i don't qualify for free fling.
Anyone else in this position (I am assuming a lot of you guys are... please share your experience). Do we have to pay every year for AP?
